The (real) Little Prince

This is a «fictional» (maybe, more like the real history as it was, then the author made a fantasy tale from it) illustration for a non existent book.

?? Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (29 June 1900 – 31 July 1944), was a French writer, poet, aristocrat, journalist and pioneering aviator. He is best remembered for his novella The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince).

On 30 December 1935, at 2:45 am, after 19 hours and 44 minutes in the air, Saint-Exupéry crashed in the Libyan desert.

He and his mechanic-navigator André Prévot miraculously survived the crash, only to face rapid dehydration in the intense desert heat.

Their maps were primitive and ambiguous, leaving them with no idea of their location, and only a few provisions.

They both saw mirages and experienced auditory hallucinations, which were quickly followed by more vivid hallucinations.

By the second and third day, they were so dehydrated that they stopped sweating. On the fourth day, a Bedouin on a camel discovered them.

Saint-Exupéry wrote and illustrated The Little Prince in the USA mid-to-late 1942. He replaced the Bedouin with an eight-year-old boy with curly blond hair.
